Hike Mount Lepetymnos/Vigla
When?Start time: Sunday 09:00 (29 April)
End time: Sunday 16:00 (29 April)
Hike “Mount Lepetymnos”
(Level of difficulty: Medium)
Total Distance of the hike: 13 km,
Duration including stops: 6-7 hours
We start our hike on top of the mountain in the village of Lepetymnos (334m above sea level). From here we reach the ruins of Chalikas. Our path leads us in steep serpentines to the old, Turkish water well of Kryta. We take the chance to top up our water bottles and rest for a while in the shade. The steepest part of our hike starts here, taking us upwards until we reach the peak of Mount Lepetymnos (968m above sea level). A stunning 360 degree panorama rewards us for all the strain.
After an extended break we continue our hike and reach the second peak of the mountain massif (Mount Lepetymnos has two peaks). Depending on the condition of the participants we descend over stony slopes (there is no path for about 30minutes) and dirt roads to the mountain village of Argennos. Or we walk back the same route, but with different views to the scenery.
Feeling hungry after the descent we can stop in a Kafenion in Argenos or Lepetymnos and enjoy a tasty meze.
