2017 Annual Conference
When?Start time: Thursday 12:00 (24 August)
End time: Sunday 12:00 (27 August)
Theme: "Giving an Account of Evil"
Deadline for abstracts: April 01, 2017
Philosophers and theologians have given an account of evil throughout history. Explanations of the origins of evil and the ways evil is expressed remain contested. This conference invites scholars of moral philosophy and theology and ethics to address the theme of evil both in concrete contexts and as an ethical category. It is impossible to ethically address evil without engaging the shadow of the Shoah, and the subsequent views on evil which have emerged in its wake. These include the philosophy of trauma, structural violence, colonialism, the rise of nationalism, slavery and human trafficking. As we meet in Greece, it is difficult to engage the theme of evil without also grappling with the issues of human migration, economic inequality, and evolving interpretations of our histories and the way we place them into conversation with present events.
